3. The National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery, free to the public, holds the world’s most extensive collection of portraits. Its goal is to “promote through the medium of portraits the appreciation and understanding of the men and women who have made and are making British history and culture, and ... to promote the appreciation and understanding of portraiture in all media.”

In 2009, it received almost 2 million visitors.

The duchess, who majored in art history at St. Andrews University in Scotland, is reportedly a dedicated patron of the arts. The gallery holds portraits of most of the former monarchs and their family, making it very likely that her own portrait will hang there one day.
