5. Ran Yunfei

Ran Yunfei is a well-known blogger and magazine writer and editor who was detained in February 2011. A month after his detention, he was formally charged with “inciting subversion.”  In August 2011 he was released, but remains under home surveillance. He has been a vocal critic of the Chinese government and was one of the earliest activists arrested in the crackdown to prevent China’s own popular uprising.
