Since he suffered a stroke in August 2008, Kim Jong-il has assiduously groomed Jong-un for succession. In 2009, Kim Jong-un got a post on the national defense commission, the center of power in North Korea of which his father was chairman. In September 2010, Kim Jong-un was named a general, although he had no previous military experience. In October 2010,he was named to the party’s central committee and became a member of the military commission.
