South Korea's Lee Jung-soo, right, celebrates with fellow team member Kim Jung-woo after scoring the opening goal during the World Cup group B soccer match between South Korea and Greece at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Saturday.

Here’s a message for African soccer powerhouse, Nigeria, and South American giant, Argentina: Watch out for South Korea.

The Reds spanked Greece in their opening Korea vs. Greece World Cup match on Saturday.

The final score was two to zero, but it easily could have been three or four to zero.

The Koreans were solid in the back, orderly at midfield, and inventive on the attack as they took it to the Greeks, heaping more disappointment on the beleaguered country.

The final whistle couldn’t come soon enough for Greece, as they were just hoping to avoid further embarrassment.

World-class striker Park Ji-sung showed why the Monitor picked him as one of our top players to watch in this World Cup when he gracefully wove through two defenders before chipping the ball past Greece’s goalkeeper for South Korea’s second goal.

It was a “lovely, delicate, classy finish” in the words of ESPN’s announcer.

Surely, Park will be one Argentina marks closely when the two teams play later this week. But, as we pointed out earlier, Argentina’s defense may be suspect this World Cup.

Right now, though, the Red Devils – as South Korea’s official fan club is called – is just happy to soak in their team’s victory. And if South Korea keeps it up, the rest of the world could be seeing red before long.
