NFL 2012: a banner year for rookie quarterbacks

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Ryan Lindley (14) passes to a teammate during the second half of an NFL preseason football game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City, Mo., Friday, Aug. 10, 2012.

Drafted: #185 overall (in sixth round)

Pro status: 3rd string

College: San Diego State

6 ft. 4 in., 230 lbs.

Hometown: San Diego

QB rating in the preseason: 60.0

The Cardinals still haven’t settled in with a quarterback since Kurt Warner retired, and in Lindley the team thinks it may have found a QB with good upside value down the line. The scouts like Lindley’s size and arm strength, but have concerns about his throwing accuracy, which trailed off his senior year at San Diego State. He may have been trying to force his throws as he tried to learn the third different offensive system during his collegiate career. Most experts agree that his footwork also presented some problems. Still, the Cardinals think they can improve Lindley’s accuracy. It just may take some time.
