Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles passes in the first half of a preseason NFL football game against the New York Jets, Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, in Philadelphia.

Drafted: #88 overall (in third round)

Pro status: 2nd string

College team: Arizona

6 ft. 6 in., 243 lbs.

Hometown: Austin, Texas

QB rating in preseason: 110.1

In Philadelphia, the fans can be quick to call for the quarterback’s head if the starter errs too often. So the backup always needs to be ready, especially if he’s the understudy to Michael Vick, who probably is more regularly banged up than others at his position. Fortunately, the Eagles are so high on Nick Foles that they’ve moved him ahead of veteran Trent Edwards on the depth chart. Coach Andy Reid says he can’t remember when a rookie played as well in the preseason as Foles, whose pregame preparation includes reading the Bible. His preseason QB rating is the highest of any rookie.
