Spurs and Thunder star in NBA’s Western Conference Finals: 10 extra dimensions

The clash of the Spurs and Thunder in the NBA’s Western Conference finals may fly a bit under the national radar when it opens Sunday. Here are 10 factors that make this showdown intriguing.

Oklahoma City and San Antonio are connected by I-35, the north-south interstate highway that runs from Laredo, Texas, to Duluth, Minn.  The 466 miles between OKC and San Antonio don’t exactly make for a Subway Series, but sharing a major artery provides a degree of geographic connection. In that way the OKC-San Antonio matchup is bit reminiscent of the 1985 World Series, which shuttled between St. Louis and Kansas City on I-70 and what was known as the “I-70 Showdown Series.”
