The Monitor's 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame picks

The Christian Science Monitor has taken a hard look at the 17 nominees for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and picked seven men who would get our vote.

Will Shields

Guard

6 ft. 3 in. 320 lbs.

Kansas City Chiefs (1993-2006)

Birthplace: Fort Riley, Kan.

Alma mater: Nebraska

Picking offensive linemen for the Hall of Fame is probably the hardest job for the official selectors. After all, these blockers generally toil without notice until committing a penalty such as holding or making a false start. This year you could throw a blanket over the three finalists  – Will Shields, Willie Roaf, and Dermontti Dawson – because they are so close in ability and achievement. Nevertheless, we’ll go with Shields for two reasons: He made the Pro Bowl a very impressive 12 straight years and he never missed a game during his 14 seasons, an incredible feat in its own right.
