NCAA women's Sweet 16: Top seeds and some surprises

The NCAA women's basketball tournament has reached the round of 16. Unlike the men's tournament, all four top regional seeds have moved on to the Sweet 16.

The ladies 'Big Dance' is down to 16 teams.

The top two seeds in all four regions of this year's NCAA women's basketball tournament have advanced to the Sweet 16, after second-round action wrapped up Tuesday night.

No. 1 overall UConn took care of ninth-seeded Purdue in the Philadelphia region, while Dallas top seed Baylor cruised past West Virginia at home Tuesday.

The Lady Huskies and Bears join fellow top seeds Tennessee and Stanford in the Sweet 16, along with a few surprising squads.

11th seed Gonzaga gets to play at home on Saturday in the Spokane regional semifinals against seventh seed Louisville. The Cardinals upset second seed Xavier on the Musketeers' home floor Tuesday night. The winner gets to play the winner of Stanford and North Carolina on Monday night.

Also reaching the Sweet 16 is Wisconsin-Green Bay, the fifth seed in the Dallas region, by virtue of a nine-point victory over Michigan State. This will be the first trip to the regional semifinals for the Phoenix.

Ohio State is one school that has both men's and women's teams in their respective NCAA basketball tournaments. The Buckeye women have an interesting matchup with Tennessee on Saturday in Dayton, Ohio.

There are five Big East teams and three Big 12 squads remaining in the women's Sweet 16. This year's women's Final Four will be held in Indianapolis April 3rd and 5th.
