Japan tenuously hung on to the No. 2 spot in 2010, but was projected to be eclipsed in 2011 by China, according to the forecast. Japan’s video game industry was expected to decline briefly as the country struggled to revive from the economic shock caused by the earthquake and tsunami in early 2011. It remains a big video game market with a passionate playing audience, however, and is also the home to two of the three major console manufacturers in the world, Nintendo and Sony.
