Bush is seen as a moderate on immigration, in that he supports a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. But he didn’t always have that view. In his 2013 book “Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution,” he opposed a path to citizenship, which conservatives call “amnesty.”
After the book came out, he said he did in fact support a path to citizenship as long as it didn’t create an incentive for more people to come to the US illegally. Bush also believes border security needs to be enhanced, and that the immigration system should emphasize the nation’s needs, not family relationships.
