PolitiFact is a fact-checking outfit, and among the many things it has checked are statements about the Ryan budget. Indeed, it has assembled a long list of claims made about Ryan and his budget plan, including statements from Ryan himself.
For example, PolitiFact takes up Obama's statement that Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan "could raise future retirees’ costs more than $6,000,” and finds it to be mostly true. It examines Vice President Joe Biden’s statement that “Ryan’s budget proposal would eliminate Medicare in 10 years,” and finds it to be false. As for Ryan, PolitiFact says his statement that Senate Democrats "have gone without any budget at all" for more than 1,000 days is "mostly true."
PolitiFact’s value is its ability to debunk. PolitiFact doesn’t shy from noting "pants on fire" claims from officeholders on both sides of the aisle, party officials, "super PACs," and advocacy groups. A project of the Tampa Bay Times (formerly the St. Pete Times), the PolitiFact site won the Pulitzer Prize for public service reporting in 2009.
