Former Rep. Joe Sestak (D) – Mr. Toomey’s opponent in 2010 – is already up and running again, hoping for a rematch. But Democratic Party leaders consider Sestak “an unreliable maverick and a political liability,” according to National Journal.
They’re hoping to find someone else to take on Toomey, so far unsuccessfully. Democrats’ only hope is that in a high-turnout presidential election year, blue-leaning Pennsylvania might be willing to toss out the conservative Toomey.
Cook and Sabato call the race lean Republican. Rothenberg-Gonzales calls it tossup/tilt Republican.
