If Gov. Maggie Hassan (D) gets into the race, Senator Ayotte could have trouble winning reelection. But so far, Governor Hassan hasn’t given the word. She’s waiting to announce her intentions until after the state legislative session ends later this summer. If Hassan doesn’t get in, the Democrats have no obvious alternative.
For now, Cook, Sabato, and Rothenberg-Gonzales all call the race lean Republican.
