Flight to Paris diverted to Boston after man 'lunged' at flight attendant

Police in Massachusetts say a man from France has been arrested after causing a disturbance on a Miami-to-Paris flight.

A spokesman for the state police says American Airlines Flight 62 was diverted to Boston's Logan International Airport on Wednesday night after a passenger became unruly.

 WHDH TV Channel 7 reported that the man lunged at a flight attendant. The passenger was subdued by a federal air marshal while the plane was in the air and arrested by state police once the plane landed at about 10 p.m.

Police say 50-year-old Edmund Alexandre, of Paris, was charged with interfering with a flight crew.

He was brought to Massachusetts General Hospital for observation and treatment of a pre-existing medical condition.

Whenever doctors deem him able, he will be arraigned in East Boston District Court. It could not be determined if he has a lawyer.

Earlier this week, the Associated Press reported that two passengers aboard a flight to from New Jersey to Denver were taken off the flight after it was diverted to Chicago, after a dispute got heated.

The fight started on a United Airlines flight because one passenger was using the Knee Defender, a $21.95 gadget that attaches to a passenger's tray table and prevents the person in front of them from reclining.

The fight started when the male passenger, seated in a middle seat of row 12, used the Knee Defender to stop the woman in front of him from reclining while he was on his laptop, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak.

A flight attendant asked him to remove the device and he refused. The woman then stood up, turned around and threw a cup of water at him, the official says. That's when United decided to land in Chicago. The two passengers were not allowed to continue to Denver.
