The Jacksonville International Airport was evacuated Tuesday after authorities found two suspicious packages.

Airport spokesman Michael Stewart was quoted by the Florida Times-Union as saying that police had found a suspicious package in the terminal and another in a parking garage.

A telephone call to Stewart from The Associated Press was not returned immediately.

Authorities tweeted news of the evacuation on the airport's official Twitter site, but only said that the airport had been evacuated "due to police activity regarding suspicious" packages. Later Tuesday night, they tweeted that a bomb squad from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office had arrived and was investigating.

Stewart was quoted by the newspaper as saying that he did not know what was in the packages. He also could not confirm whether anyone had been arrested.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage. Jacksonville police blocked off the entrance to the airport.

Airport officials tweeted that passengers on inbound flights currently on the ground would be bused to offsite hotels as transportation became available.

Stewart advised people intending to fly from the airport or pick up travelers to check with their individual airlines on the status of the flights.
