Network TBS says late-night host Conan O’Brien’s show “Conan” will remain a nightly program, despite previous reports that it would be changing to a weekly schedule.
“At this time, we have no plans to change the format or frequency of his popular TBS show,” TBS president Kevin Reilly said in a statement.
After serving as host of NBC’s “Late Night” program and becoming the host of NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” O’Brien debuted his show “Conan” on TBS in 2010. It currently airs four days a week, a schedule similar to that embraced by, for example, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Others, like CBS’s “The Late Show,” air five days a week.
O’Brien is one of the late-night hosts who has been on television the longest, having debuted on NBC’s “Late Night” in 1993.
The 2016 output by TBS, the home of “Conan,” was met with a positive reception by critics. Near the beginning of that year, TBS launched “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee,” a weekly current events program hosted by the former “Daily Show” correspondent. Multiple critics named Ms. Bee’s show as one of the best programs of the year, including Rolling Stone reviewer Rob Sheffield, who wrote, “Bee came in swinging and never let up.”
And near the end of 2016, TBS launched its new show “Search Party,” a comedy series that stars Alia Shawkat and has received positive reviews. Vulture writer Matt Zoller Seitz called the program “exceptional and surprising,” with an “exceptional” cast.
“This is just a great show,” Mr. Seitz wrote, “refreshingly unafraid to twist the knife – a late-breaking candidate for best series of 2016, arriving near the end of a year that’s had so many candidates I can barely keep track of them.”
It was previously reported that “Conan” will be staying at TBS at least through 2018.
