'Tramps' is remarkably fresh, as are its leads

Adam Leon’s “Tramps,” which is currently streaming on Netflix (it deserved to play in theaters first), is a sweetly disarming romance that confirms the gifts he exhibited in his 2012 debut feature “Gimme the Loot.”
Danny (Callum Turner) lives in the New York borough of Queens with his Polish mother, who runs a gambling operation from her home. Danny’s ne’er-do-well brother (Michal Vondel) implicates him in a shady deal involving a mysterious briefcase. This in turn brings in the hard-bitten Ellie (Grace Van Patten), the assigned driver on the job, who forms an unlikely liaison with Danny that is no less charming for being inevitable. The two leads are remarkably fresh, and so is the movie. Grade: A- (This movie is not rated.)
