The 1944 movie directed by Clarence Brown stars Elizabeth Taylor as Velvet Brown, a young girl who wins a horse in a raffle and decides to compete with him in the Grand National steeplechase, aided by a hired hand named Mi (Mickey Rooney).
According to Turner Classic Movies, Taylor's brother Howard has a brief appearance in the film as a schoolboy.
Taylor was given the horse that portrayed The Pie after filming was finished, according to TCM. Anne Revere, who played Mrs. Brown in the film, won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actresses.
