The 1970 animated TV movie directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. tells the story of Santa Claus's childhood and youth, from the time he was raised by the Kringle elf family to his fight to get toys to the children of Sombertown, where a mayor named Burgermeister Meisterburger had outlawed them.
Actor Mickey Rooney voiced Santa Claus and would voice him again for the 1974 Rankin/Bass film "The Year Without a Santa Claus."
The actress who voiced the librarian Jessica, Robie Lester, would later provide the singing voice for actress Eva Gabor's character in the Disney film "The Aristocats."
