Megan Hilty exits 'Smash' for new TV comedy

Megan Hilty, who played Ivy Lynn on 'Smash,' joins her on-screen mentor in a new NBC comedy. Sean Hayes and Megan Hilty will star in "Sean Saves the World."

Megan Hilty and Sean Hayes are back together again for NBC.

Hilty, who starred on the network's ill-fated musical series "Smash" as ensemble performer Ivy Lynn, has signed on to costar in Sean Hayes' upcoming NBC comedy "Sean Saves the World."

"Will & Grace" alum Hayes came aboard "Smash" -- which died a quiet death after being moved to Saturdays earlier this year -- for a multi-episode arc on the series' second and final season.

In the new offering, Hayes stars as Sean, a divorced dad who juggles a successful but demanding career, his pushy mother ("Alice" star Linda Lavin) and weekends with his teen daughter Ellie. When Ellie moves in, Sean becomes intent on becoming the best father ever. However, things go awry when his new boss decides that Sean ad his team need to work longer hours.

Hilty will play Liz, a former therapist and Sean's friend, who also works with him. "Horrible Bosses" actresses Lindsay Sloane had previously been cast in the role. Hilty is also the voice of the "China Princess" in next year's animated film "Legends of Oz: Dorthy's Return." The 2004 Carnegie Mellon graduate also played Glinda in 2005-2006 in the Broadway production of "Wicked."

"Sean Saves the World" will air Thursdays in the fall.
