Bobby Brown DUI sentence: 55 days in jail, 18 months alcohol treatment

Bobby Brown was sentenced to to 55 days in a Los Angeles jail and four years of probation for drunk driving. Bobby Brown is considered a pioneer of New Jack Swing music.

Bobby Brown has been sentenced to 55 days in a Los Angeles jail and four years of probation for a drunken driving case.

City attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan says Brown was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to charges he was under the influence and driving on a suspended license when he was arrested in October.  Brown was driving without his court-mandated dashboard Breathalyzer, city attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said at the time..

Brown was on probation for another driving under the influence case at the time.

The 44-year-old "New Edition" singer was ordered to report to jail March 20. He also was placed on four years of informal probation and will be required to complete an 18-month alcohol treatment program. He was also fined $300.

Brown's attorney Tiffany Feder had no immediate comment on the sentence.

Brown is considered a pioneer of New Jack Swing music, a fusion of hip-hop and R&B. Brown has won a Grammy, and had a series of top 10 singles, including the 1988 song "My Perogative." Brown was married to singer Whitney Houston from 1991 to 2007. In 2005, Brown and Houston starred in a realty TV series "Being Bobby Brown."
