Mom's top 10 book list for toddlers

The Monitor asked parents to submit their favorite books to read with their toddlers in an informal Facebook survey. Our survey revealed that many of the books that parents cherish most are those that they remember reading as children. Here are the top ten recommendations of stories that are sure to hold up through endless readings – we can't make any promises about the pages of the book, though.

10. 'There's a Monster at the End of this Book' by Jon Stone

Parents and children are sure to love "Sesame Street" writer and director Jon Stone's "There's a Monster at the End of this Book: Starring Lovable, Furry Old Grover." Throughout the book, Grover pleads, begs, and implores kids not to turn the page, because he is afraid of the monster at the end of the book. He tries tying the pages up with rope and builds a brick wall in an effort to keep the reader from turning the page. Children giggle with delight as each defiant turn of the page sparks a newly intensified effort to stop them from an exasperated Grover. "There's a Monster at the End of this Book: Starring Lovable, Furry Old Grover" was first published by Golden Books in 1971.

Other books by Mr. Stone include "Christmas on Sesame Street," "Lovable, Furry Old Grover's Resting Places," and "Hide and Seek with Lovable, Furry Old Grover."
