2. Get creative with cardboard

Costumes built out of cardboard can be ideal for kids because they can be built to wear over clothes and coats during trick or treating. While young kids will probably need help cutting the stiff board, they can take an active part in designing and decorating the costume. Cut some holes for arms and a head and you're halfway to a robot, a space ship, or a marshmallow. The options are bound only by your child's imagination.
