David Sanchez, whose son-in-law Caleb Medley was hospitalized in critical condition after last Friday's Colorado movie theater shooting, is surrounded by media as he arrives for the preliminary hearing for shooting suspect James Holmes in Centennial, Colorado on Monday. Sanchez's daughter Katie Medley gave birth to her and Caleb's first child on Tuesday.

A woman whose husband was critically wounded in the Colorado movie theater shooting has given birth to the couple's first child.

Hugo Jackson Medley was born at 7:11 a.m. MT Tuesday at University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, the same hospital where his father, 23-year-old Caleb Medley, lies in critical condition.

The hospital said both the mother, 21-year-old Katie Medley, and baby were doing great.

Katie Medley went into labor Monday, the date that had been scheduled for the delivery before the shooting. However, she moved the delivery so she could be close to her husband.

The couple went to the midnight showing of the new Batman movie in Aurora as a last date before becoming parents. Katie Medley's father, David Sanchez, said his daughter and son-in-law had been waiting for a year to watch the premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises."

Caleb, an aspiring comic, was wounded in the head. Katie wasn't hurt.

While his daughter was about to deliver her baby, Sanchez went to the courthouse in suburban Denver where shooting suspect James Holmes was making his first court appearance on Monday.

Sanchez arrived too late to get a seat and to see Holmes. "When it's your own daughter and she escaped death by mere seconds, I want to say it makes you angry," he said outside court.

Friends have set up a website to raise money and seek prayers for the couple, who don't have health insurance. Donations have shot up since the story gained national attention. As of Tuesday morning, over $70,000 has been raised.

People from around the country and world have been offering their encouragement and prayers on a Facebook page set up to follow Caleb Medley's progress.
