Catching the bombers
Inside the Hunt for the Boston Bombers is a gripping docudrama that re-creates the bombings that disrupted the 2013 Boston Marathon and launched a massive manhunt for the suspects. Based on eyewitness accounts, “Inside the Hunt” relies on the narratives of law enforcement officials, survivors, and citizens to retell the event that shut down a city and held the attention of the world. It premières April 13 at 9 p.m. with an encore airing April 16 on National Geographic. Check natgeotv.com for future airings or visit its interactive page at http://bit.ly/NatGeoBoston.
Rock icon
On Wednesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. local time, Fathom Events presents Peter Gabriel: Back to Front in select theaters across the United States. The film, featuring such hits as “Solsbury Hill,” “Don’t Give Up,” and “Sledgehammer” in surround sound, offers a deeper look into the artist’s creative work as well as a VIP experience at a concert recorded in October 2013 at London’s O2. The US showing falls during the same month that Gabriel was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist.
Humor on your commute
Did you miss “The Daily Show” last night? Catch up during your morning bus ride through Comedy Central’s new app, which lets you watch the most recent episodes of programming such as “The Colbert Report.” Full seasons of other shows are also available if you sign in with your cable or satellite provider. The app is available free through the iTunes App Store. Because of the adult content of some shows, viewer discretion is advised.
Green passion
As Earth Day nears, “American Masters” on PBS tracks the history of the environmental movement in A Fierce Green Fire. The program follows the effort from its exploding popularity in the 1970s to today’s debate over climate change. It also looks at pivotal moments in the movement’s history, such as the fight to stop dams in the Grand Canyon. Narrators include actors Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. It airs on Earth Day, April 22, at 9 p.m.
Seafood that sizzles
We find something special in every issue of the sumptuous and astute foodie-fave magazine Saveur. But its Ultimate Home Cook’s Seafood Guide deserves mention, with savory stops from the Maritime Provinces of Canada to Croatia and a useful key to fish-market finds. We landed on a sole piccata recipe, made one minor modification, and pulled off a delicately nuanced shallot-and-capers skillet dish that was (somehow) easy enough for a weeknight meal. Now that’s a newsstand catch.
Modern beauty
Choreographer Matthew Bourne is back with the final production in his trio of balletic reimaginings with Sleeping Beauty. PBS airs the 2012 revamped staging of this Marius Petipa classic on “Great Performances” on April 25. Set to Tchaikovsky’s swirling score, this updated take on the classic fairy tale moves through the centuries to enter the modern world in what Bourne calls a Gothic love story for all ages.
