Smart dog videos: A yellow lab raids the refrigerator and other highlight clips

For all the brilliant dogs who have been stuffed into adorable holiday costumes, made to wear antlers, and pull the Grinch’s massive sleigh, ‘tis the season to celebrate the flat-out genius of some canines (especially when their master-stylists aren’t around to watch).
Oh sure you want your dogs to bark Jingle Bells, fetch Santa some cookies and maybe even don a terrifying spider costume with good cheer.
Social media is groaning under the weight of images of adorable dogs all dolled-up for the holidays.
However, just let a dog try and sneak a little snack from the fridge for themselves and they’re shot to the top of the Naughty List like one dog caught on camera and branded as “devious."
Apparently, San Luis Obispo, Calif., radio personality Adam Montiel posted a video Dec. 1 that already has 474,000 views on YouTube of his dog, Allie, raiding the fridge in his absence.
"Allie, our 12 year old Yellow Labrador was getting into the fridge and freezer. We couldn't figure out how she was doing it, so I hooked up a go-pro to find out," Mr. Montiel posted in the video description. "My girlfriend taught Allie to open a drawer where Allie's toys were, we didn't even think that the freezer itself is a big giant drawer...with food!. But how she opened the doors with her mouth, and at the hinges was incredible to us. Yes we feed her, she is a very smart and loving soul, and we love her more than anything."
Sharnea Connelly commented on the video, “What happened when the owner came home? I would love to see the dog's reaction to the owner questioning him. Lol I love this. This dog is one smart lab.”
While not all dogs are as bright as Mr. Peabody the imaginary Nobel Prize-winning dog in the 2014 Disney movie, "Mr. Peabody and Sherman," who adopts a human child, many are pretty darn close.
Frankly, dogs don’t ask for much in exchange for their awesome skill set at our disposal.
In fact, some dogs, like Louie the Beagle, are just overjoyed to get an empty lemonade bottle from their human companions.
And Nana the border collie will run the gambit from fetching the television remote controller to skateboarding and even performing remarkable leaps into the back of a pickup truck (over the closed tailgate) for nothing more than the sound of a clicker and a pat on the head!
Some dogs are not only smart, but wise and compassionate as well. On Dec 5, Labradoodle Laika noticed her fellow canine, Jackson, was apparently having a bad dream and leapt into action to offer comfort with an epic snuggle caught on video.
Given all the comfort and joy to be had from the dogs in our lives it seems only fair that one poodle recently got her human to dress up as the character Bumble from the claymation film “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” for one of their walks through the streets of Allouez Village in Wisconsin.
Now that’s a crafty pooch.
