The 1991 film made history as the first animated movie to be nominated for Best Picture. It was nominated for six other categories and won in two, including Best Original Song, for the title track. Originally, the character of Chip the small teacup was only going to have one line, but the production team was so impressed with the performance of Bradley Michael Pierce, who voiced Chip, that they expanded his role. When recording songs for the film, the cast often performed together and with a live orchestra, rather than recording separately as often happens, in an attempt to get the collaborative feeling of a musical theater cast album.
