Despite sci-fi tropes, robots make better managers, study says

Commander Data from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987-1994)

Data may have been viewed by some as the Spock replacement for this television series, but over the course of seven seasons, Data and his search for humanity became a trustworthy and loved addition to The Enterprise. In the film “Star Trek Generations,” he activated his emotion chip to become more human. He is given control of a starship and the resulting story directly addresses how humans might react to having a machine at the helm of a ship.
