Here's a look at some of the most prolific tech companies today and how they ended up with their names.

14. Samsung

When Byung-Chull Lee started his trade and export business in Taegu, Korea in 1938, it is doubtful that he projected his company would one day hawk smart phones and tablets. But that is the case for Samsung.

His business sold dried Korean fish, vegetables, and fruit to Manchuria and Beijing. He named the business Samsung, which means “three stars” in Korean hanja character. The connotations of three in Korean are big, numerous, and powerful, while the connotation of stars is eternity.
