In iOS 6 and its predecessors, turning off an app required a level of patience that, in the Digital Age, can be described only as superhuman. Back in those dark days, to shut down an app, you would have to double-tap your home button, and then hold the app icon for a seemingly interminable length of time, staring at your growing fingernails, until eventually a red badge would appear on the app, allowing you to turn it off.
Now you don’t have to wait. Double-tap home, and you’ll see all your recently used apps appear as a series of screens with their icons below. Simply swipe upward on the screen, and the app will turn off.
