Trump to lift sanctions on Syria. President Donald Trump said on May 13 that he will normalize relations and lift sanctions on Syria’s new government to give the country “a chance at peace.” Mr. Trump is set to meet with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa on May 14 in Saudi Arabia.
