Global emissions stalled in 2014, according to IEA, making it the first time in 40 years that emissions have flat-lined without an economic downturn being the culprit.
"This gives me even more hope that humankind will be able to work together to combat climate change, the most important threat facing us today," IEA Chief Economist Fatih Birol said.
In the US, GDP grew 2.4 percent in 2014 and US emissions ticked up only .7 percent, according to a US Energy Information Agency report.
