Dodge Ram trucks recalled for brake-light problem
Chrysler is recalling some 76,000 of its newest Dodge Ram trucks because their brake lights can stay on too long.
The problem: Caps on the power-steering reservoir aren't always venting enough pressure. The result: Brake pedals return to their neutral position more slowly than they should, keeping the brake lights on for an extended period.
The safety concern isn't the brakes. They disengage when they're supposed to, says Vince Muniga, a Chrysler spokesman. "It's just that the rear lights are on."
Only 2010 and 2011 Dodge Rams with diesel engines are affected. The trucks were built from March 2009 through October 2010.
The recall is expected to begin in February. Ram owners will be asked to bring their trucks in to a dealer for inspection. "If there is an issue, we replace the cap for nothing," Mr. Muniga says.
