Best Buy has now weighed in with its sale offerings for the big shopping day after Thanksgiving.
Does Best Buy Black Friday 2010 offer great deals? It depends.
In an ongoing trend toward pushing down HDTV prices, Best Buy is offering a Panasonic Viera 50-inch plasma TV for an amazing $699. That's better than any online deal we could find and $150 cheaper than Amazon.com's price.
Another hot deal is a Nintendo Wii console with Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuck, Wii Sports, & Wii Sports Resort for $169.99.
But these are "doorbusters" – sale items available in limited quantities to early bird shoppers willing to line up for Best Buy's 5 a.m. opening on Black Friday.
The chain's all-day Black Friday deals are more mixed.
On the plus side, Best Buy's $799.99 price for a Canon EOS Rebel T2i D-SLR camera is aggressive. It beats Amazon's current price by $40 and Walmart's by $50.
Ditto for the Flip Video UltraHD U260W Video Recorder at $99.99. That's $30 off the lowest current price we could find online.
But the $1,199 Apple MacBook Pro with 13.3-inch screen, 4 gigabytes of RAM, and a 250-gigbyte hard drive is a yawner. You can get it for the same price at the Apple Store today with free shipping.
Best Buy's $1 sale on the HTC Droid Incredible with a two-year activation seems like a winner. But we found the same phone for free from Wirefly.com with two-year activation through Verizon.
Just because it's a Black Friday sale doesn't mean an item is a great deal. Savvy shoppers will have to do a little research to separate the gems from the also-rans.
