The best hotel promotions for Summer 2015

Hotels across the world are rolling out their summer promotions, and if you book now, you can save big on your next vacation.

Here comes the sun! Hotels across the world are rolling out their summer promotions, and if you book now, you can save big on your next vacation.

Here are a few hot new summer deals from the top hotel chains:

I am a huge fan of Hyatt hotels not only because I think they have some of the nicest properties, but also because they run some amazing promotions throughout the year. On June 1 they launched their latest promotion, Sweet Dreams Sweet Rewards.

Depending on the number of nights that you stay between now and September 30, 2015 you could earn up to 65,000 bonus Hyatt points. While I've heard that there are a total of five different bonus levels, Hyatt’s website only includes information on the following three:

  • Stay 15 Nights, Earn 30,000 Bonus Points
  • Stay 20 Nights, Earn 45,000 Bonus Points
  • Stay 25 Nights, Earn 65,000 Bonus Points

I signed up for the promotion and was offered 5,000 bonus points after my next five Hyatt stays, and I've heard others have been offered 3,000 points after their first stay.

If you want to receive a couple of free nights at any Hyatt hotel worldwide, sign up for the Chase Hyatt card. If you spend $1,000 in the first three months you will receive two free nights that can be used at any Hyatt property.

Another great way to earn extra Hyatt points is to sign up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. When you sign up and spend $4,000 in the first three months you will receive 40,000 Ultimate Reward points, which can be transferred to Hyatt. You will also receive another 5,000 points when you add an authorized user to your account.

Starwood Make It Count

Starwood hotels, which are a favorite for a lot of travelers, just announced a summer Make It Count promotion. Through August 31, 2015 you can earn a bonus 1,000 Starwood points for every weekend stay of two nights or more. At just 500 points per night, this is honestly a very disappointing promotion for Starwood. Hopefully we will see something a little better from them come fall.

If you want to earn Starwood points a little quicker than you can with this promotion, apply for the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express. You will earn 25,000 points after you spend $3,000 in the first three months of being a card member.

Hilton Double Your HHonors

During the spring Hilton ran a Double Your HHonors promotion, which has now been extended through August 31, 2015. When you sign up for this promotion you will earn either double HHonors points or double miles on one of Hilton’s transfer partners after you stay at any Hilton Hotel or resort.

Add even more Hilton points to your account, by applying for the Hilton HHonors Surpass card from American Express. When you spend $3,000 in the first three months you will receive 60,000 points. Alternatively, you can apply for the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card and receive two free weekend nights after you spend $2,500 within the first four months. For a limited time you can also receive a $100 statement credit after you spend $100 on Hilton hotels in the first three months of being a card member.

If you are going to book a family vacation this summer, make sure you take advantage of one of these promotions so that you can add a few extra loyalty points to your account. This article will be updated as promotions are announced this summer, so check back for more info!

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”
