Ford brands new diesels EcoBlue

Europeans will now have access to Ford's newest line of diesel engines, which fall under the EcoBlue banner.

Ford today unveiled the 2.0-liter version of its EcoBlue, but it says that more new turbodiesels are headed to showrooms in Europe.

The 2.0-liter will be available in a range of tunes, starting with a 100PS model (about 98 horsepower) and working up to a 240PS unit (about  237 horsepower). Initially, they'll arrive under the hood of Ford's Transit and Transit Custom van range, where they replace 2.2-liter units.

Ford says that its passenger car range in Europe will get the engines soon. 

A 1.5-liter 4-cylinder will follow for passenger cars. 

On the tech front, the new engines boast an all-new compact turbocharger system, new high-pressure fuel injectors, and an integrated intake with mirror-image porting for optimum breathing. 

Ford says that its new EcoBlue range will allow the automaker's turbodiesel cars to meet stringent new Euro VI standards.  

The nameplate fits in nicely with the automaker's EcoBoost line of turbocharged gasoline engines.

For now, it is not expected that any of the new generation of EcoBlue engines will be sold in the United States other than in the commercial-oriented Transit van lineup, though a turbodiesel F-150 is on the way.
