This file photo made Jan. 23, 2008, shows a Toyota vehicle logo on a vehicle inside the Toyota North American headquarters in Torrance, Calif. The company is recalling more than 261,000 vehicles due to an issue with their brakes.

Toyota has issued a recall on certain versions of the Lexus RX crossover due to an issue with the affected vehicles’ brakes. Also included in the latest recall are the Toyota Tacoma and RAV4.

The recall affects 2012 and 2013 Lexus RX 350s, 2012 and 2013 Toyota Tacomas, and 2012 Toyota RAV4s. In total, there are 261,114 vehicles affected.

According to Toyota, an electrical component within the actuator that adjusts the fluid pressure for each of the brakes of the affected vehicles may experience an increased resistance.

This would result in the illumination of various warning lights in the dash, including those for the stability and traction control systems as well as the antilock brakes. If this were to occur, Toyota says that the systems could become inoperative, reducing the directional control assistance during braking, and thus increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota is in the process of notifying owners of the affected vehicles. The solution requires Toyota or Lexus dealership staff to update the software for an electronic control unit on the cars responsible for skid control, a service they will offer free of charge.

For further information you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 (reference recall number 14V054000) or Lexus at 1-800-255-3987 or Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
