Sept. 29, 2015: Volkswagen unveils a plan to fix the cars affected by the emissions scandal.

New Volkswagen CEO Matthias Muller announces that the company will ask owners of cars that are carrying the defeat devices to bring their vehicles in to be refitted with proper software. The recall of 11 million cars is among the biggest in history, and some expect the costs to exceed the $7.3 billion the company has put aside for the fix.

"We are facing a long trudge and a lot of hard work," Mr. Mueller told a closed-door gathering top managers, according to Reuters.
