Clippers for sale? Six potential celebrity buyers.

As the NBA begins the likely messy process of forcing Donald Sterling to sell his team after giving him a lifetime league ban and a $2.5 million fine, a big question looms:  If the NBA and its owners can get Sterling to sell, who will be the new Clippers owner? Several famous names have already thrown their hats into the ring, including sports superstars, titans of entertainment and business, and a former child actor.

4. David Geffen

Job: Music and film producer

Net worth: $6.2 billion

What would make him a good owner? Geffen reportedly tried to buy the Clippers in 2010, and  his office confirmed to the LA Times that he’s interested in doing it again. He has the money to buy it himself, and the money to really spend on the team once he has it (Sterling was notoriously thrifty during his three decades of ownership). Other big business names linked to a potential sale include Oracle fouder Larry Ellison (he tried to buy the Golden State Warriors in 2010 and would be part of Geffen's bidding group) and biotech investor Patrick Soon Shiong, who bought Magic Johnson’s 4.5 percent stake in the Lakers in 2010.
