Forbes billionaires list: Meet the nine richest self-made women

Forbes has released its annual billionaires list, and nestled among the usual suspects were women who have made or helped make their own fortunes, in industries ranging from television to real estate to clothing. These are the nine richest self-made women on Forbes 2013 Billionaires List.

Ms. Fisher founded the Gap in San Francisco with her late husband, in 1969. The original store sold Levi’s jeans and records. The Gap grew quickly, and now has over 3,000 locations worldwide and subsidiary store chains that include Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime, Athleta, and intermix. In addition to her stake in Gap, Fisher’s holdings include a very valuable art collection, set to be permanently displayed in a wing at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 2016.
