The Netherlands has the fifth-largest economy in the eurozone. Petroleum refining is a key part of the Netherlands’ industrial sector, along with food processing and electrical machinery.  The Dutch economy grew for 26 years without interruption until the 2008 global financial crisis, which had serious effects on the Dutch financial sector. In response, the government initiated economic stimulus programs and nationalized two banks.
