Yakima Valley, one of the best apple-producing areas in the U.S., has seen home prices rise 11.1 percent.

Located in the fertile Yakima Valley, a major wine region and one of the best apple-producing areas in the US,  the Yakima metro area has  begun to pick up the pieces after the Great Recession brought down housing prices. About 11.1 percent of all homes sold in Yakima County in the fourth quarter were bank-owned sales, which is below the rates of more troubled markets in Washington State as well as nationwide.  Prices in the past year have moved up from $157,000 to $174,900.
