Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks, and a beloved novel as a source text couldn't save "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," which has the lowest worldwide box office receipts out of our nominees. Critical reception was equally questionable: The film has a 46 percent rating on the critical aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.

Fun fact: Thomas Horn, who plays Oskar Schell in the film, was a winner on "Jeopardy!" Kids Week in 2010, earning $31,800 and catching the eye of "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" producer Scott Rudin, who cast him in the film.
