“Yangtzee River Number Two’s” lofty price tag was bested by the March 2011 sale of another Tibetan Mastiff puppy, "Hong Dong," (“Big Splash” in English) to a Chinese coal baron. In addition to his rare red coloring (red is considered good luck in China), Hong Dong was a “perfect specimen,” according to his breeder, who raised the pup on a diet of beef, chicken abalone, and sea cucumber. Hong Dong cost his doting owner 10 million Chinese yuan – $1.5 million – and holds the Guinness World record for most expensive dog ever sold.
