A new trailer has been released for the upcoming season of “Game of Thrones.”
“Thrones” is based on the “Song of Ice and Fire” series by George R.R. Martin. The books center on the kingdom of Westeros, where various families and factions struggle to take control of the country. Various main characters include Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), daughter of a murdered king who is determined to take back the throne; Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), a member of a powerful family who has discovered he has a talent for court intrigue; and Jon Snow (Kit Harington), an illegitimate member of the powerful Stark family who has joined the Night’s Watch, a military group that defends the country from strange creatures in the North and those who would wish to attack those in the south. (And many, many, many more characters.)
The new trailer shows Daenerys even more determined to take back Westeros.
“Lannister, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell, they’re all just spokes on a wheel,” she says. “This one’s on top, then that one’s on top, and on and on it spins, crushing those on the ground. I’m not going to stop the wheel. I’m going to break the wheel.”
Meanwhile, Tyrion sees one of Daenerys’s dragons and Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane), another contender for the throne who recently saved the Night’s Watch from being defeated by the Northern people the wildlings, says, “This is the time and I will risk everything.”
In addition, trouble may be brewing with the new religious character portrayed by “Wolf Hall” actor Jonathan Pryce.
“Thrones” is debuting its fifth season on April 12. The show has been nominated for multiple Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Emmy Awards. Dinklage won the Best Supporting Actor TV Golden Globe in 2012 and the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Emmy Award in 2011.
