The 'Frozen' book that's being compared to ... 'Gone Girl'?
Book versions of Disney’s animated smash hit “Frozen” have stayed steadily on bestseller lists since the movie was released in November 2013. And now a new book for young adults based on the movie is coming out – but it’s based on a dark portion of the story.
According to the website Collider, Disney is releasing a book for young adults in May this May titled “A Frozen Heart.” The “heart” portion of the title isn’t referring to the central romance of Anna (Kristen Bell) and her companion Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), but to the relationship between Anna and the prince Hans (Santino Fontana).

As you might remember, Hans and Anna’s relationship ends with him leaving her for dead and attempting to murder her sister. According to the publisher, “Told in alternating chapters from both Anna’s and Hans’ perspectives, 'A Frozen Heart' delves into the couple’s failed romance, exploring their backstories, motivations, and ultimate separation.”
So the dark romance at its center and the book’s style is causing some to compare it to … “Gone Girl.” Writer Meredith Woerner of the website io9 wrote that the new book “sounds like ‘Gone Girl’ on ice…. I'm sorry, but this is so much reverse 'Gone Girl' it's hilarious.”
Britt Hayes of the website ScreenCrush agreed, noting that the book “sounds an awful lot like” Gillian Flynn’s bestseller (turned into a box office-topping movie of its own).
“What happens when you combine the most popular animated film of all time with one of the most popular films of 2014? This book has the potential to be a pretty big deal.”
In any case, you might want to keep it away from your “Frozen”-loving six-year-old.
