Penguin Random House launches #GiveaBook campaign

Through the campaign, the publisher will donate a book to the organization Save the Children every time someone uses the hashtag online. Penguin Random House will make donations up to 25,000 times.

The #GiveaBook campaign officially launches on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 29, and encourages holiday shoppers to patronize local businesses like independent bookstores.

A new campaign by publisher Penguin Random House is hoping to inspire readers to give books to their friends for the holidays, while through the campaign, the publisher will be donating books to the organization Save the Children.

Through the #GiveaBook campaign, every time someone uses the hashtag online, Penguin Random House will donate a book to Save the Children. The publisher will do this a maximum of 25,000 times.

Meanwhile, authors such as “Parks and Recreation” star Nick Offerman and Mike Tyson as well as recent National Book Award winners Phil Klay and Jacqueline Woodson have created videos sharing a book they’re giving to a friend and nominating three acquaintances to make a video. (You can check out the videos on the campaign’s Twitter and Facebook page.)
