'The Hunger Games' will now become a stage show
The movie adaptation of “The Hunger Games” book series will (presumably) conclude in 2015 with the release of the final film, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.” But “Games” fans can now look forward to finding the story by Suzanne Collins on stage beginning in 2016.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, a “theatrical experience” based on the books will debut in London. The company Imagine Nation, which was behind the Netherlands theater production "Soldier of Orange" which involved a rotating auditorium, is working with “Games” movie studio Lionsgate to create the show along with the American company Triangular Entertainment. Imagine Nation co-founder Robin de Levita is one of the producers.
“Robin de Levita and the entire production team are the perfect partners for extending The Hunger Games franchise into a live theatrical experience,” Lionsgate chief marketing officer Tim Palen said in a statement. “Their creative genius, combined with world-class production values and state-of-the-art technology will provide a uniquely immersive experience for fans around the world.”
The show will be housed in a new theater that’s being built next to Wembley Stadium, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” the second-to-last film in the series, is set to come to theaters on Nov. 21.
