A trailer for the film adaptation of John Green’s young adult mega-bestseller “The Fault in Our Stars” has been released.
“Fault” stars Shailene Woodley as Hazel, a teenager who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and actor Ansel Elgort as Gus, who lost a leg to bone cancer but is in remission when Hazel meets him at a support group.
Actors Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Mike Birbiglia, and Willem Dafoe are also starring in the film.
The trailer begins with Woodley as Hazel saying that her story is a sad one.
“You could sugarcoat it… nothing is too messed-up that it can’t be fixed with a Peter Gabriel song,” she says. “I like that version as much as the next girl does, it’s just not the truth.”
The clip shows Hazel going to a support group for younger people who were diagnosed with cancer (“Make some friends!” her mother, portrayed by Dern, urges her) and bumping into Gus. When Gus is asked to share his fears with the group, he says only, “Oblivion.”
When Gus expresses his feelings to Hazel, she tells him, “I’m a grenade. One day I’m going to blow up and I’m going to obliterate everything in my wake and I don’t want to hurt you.”
However, the trailer shows their budding romance, with Hazel later saying to Augustus, "You gave me a forever within the numbered days."
The film is set to hit theaters June 6.
